While Ward was behind the counter cleaning records, I asked if he could recommend a “Roberta Flack-ish” album cause I’d been listening to Flack’s First Take a lot. Of course, his first suggestion was Donny Hathaway’s Extentions of a Man…then he directed me to The Baby Huey Story. He told me it was a bit obscure, but that didn’t deter me from picking it up. Just talking about the album seemed to get Ward excited and If you saw the cover art, you would be intrigued. When I got home I dropped it onto my turntable. I intended to just preview the first track, but ended up listening to the entire album. It was great. There is something about discovering “old” things—things that have been around for years—for the first time that I really like. There is so much that I’ve been missing.
